UAL – Student Housing for 20,000 Enrolment

Brief

University of the Arts London is one of Europe’s premier private art and design institutions.  It has an annual enrollment of 20,000 students from over 40 countries who are served by six colleges across London.

Student accommodation in London is limited, expensive and for UAL to secure it for its students implies a significant, long-term financial commitment by the university (potentially tens of millions of pounds annually). With changes in university funding creating severe uncertainty in future enrollment, the university needed to more clearly identify potential future student housing requirements and minimise the university’s financial exposure.

Perficae was engaged to create a methodology for this analysis, and carry out the study and recommendations. We continue to update this analysis annually and have been doing so for the past five years. In order to develop the work we undertook the following:

  • Database analysis of student enrollment (merging of multiple databases required)
  • Development of risk analysis model specific to the student housing needs of UAL
  • Market research and analysis
  • Regent level presentations
